Musher Position Expectation

The Tour Musher conducts dog cart tours in a safe, responsible, professional, and friendly manner for Guests. Tour Mushers will be required to prepare and deliver a short safety / familiarization presentation to Guests including interpretive dialog on Alaskana and dogsledding throughout the tour.

Tour Mushers provide daily dog care and ensure the well-being of each individual dog assigned to the Tour Musher. Tour Mushers participate in trail maintenance, trail cleaning and daily camp chores as assigned to meet the needs of day-to-day operations. Tour Mushers assist Camp Management with coordinating tours, optimizing utilization of personnel, dogs, and equipment.

Tour Mushers work closely with assigned handlers to develop required skills and assist handlers in all aspects of camp, dog yard and tour related activities. Tour Mushers must maintain a positive attitude and outlook toward the Dogs, Mushers, Guests, and other Staff at all times.

Tour Mushers continually solve problems as they arise and function as a troubleshooter, resolving issues before they can have a negative effect on operational efficiency. Tour Mushers ensure proper maintenance of all operation facilities and equipment through daily inspections of camp and dog yards. Tour Mushers are encouraged to suggest new products and/or services for the betterment of operations.

Gold Rush Dog Tours, LLC requires all employees to abide by all policies of the Company, which include but are not limited to:

  • Standard Operating Procedures
  • Personnel Policies and Procedures

Chain of Command

Tour Mushers report directly to their Camp Manager. The Camp Manager reports to the General Manager, who reports directly to the Ownership Team. Should a situation arise that a Tour Musher feels uncomfortable in approaching their Camp Manager, the Tour Musher should address their concerns to the General Manager. All other Tour Musher questions, comments and concerns must adhere to the chain of command.
