Mushers Bringing Dogs

DOG GEAR

We have found the following mushing gear helpful, items in BOLD are MANDATORY.

Please write or inscribe your name on supplies or gear that you bring.

MANDATORY

1 Harness Per Dog plus 3 Spare Harnesses: 3 spares harness are required in the event of chewing, Camp also has some webbing for repairs but you may want to bring your own kit.

Each Dog MUST Have Their Name On Their Collar: Especially dogs coming without their owner.

4 Carabiners (non screw-gate/locking): Oval or D-style climbing carabiners.

SUGGESTED

2 Sky Kennels: These are best left in your truck until needed. They can be very useful in the event of a sick dog. Intermediate kennels are the most convenient size.

Vet Kit: Though we have extensive supplies in camp, it is suggested to bring a small kit of your own.

Dog Brush: It is best to keep the dogs brushed out due to the damp climate

Nail Clippers, Fids, a few spare collars

Small bag/backpack: Helpful for holding musher radios, first aid kits etc.

Summer traveling with dogs. Please make sure your boxes are well ventilated. Don’t double box dogs if you can help it; if you must, make sure the airflow cannot be blocked. This may require extra holes above the door. Do NOT use straw for summer travel. The humidity created by wet dogs and wet straw will saturate the oxygen in the small area.

Gold Rush Dog Tours, LLC has dog boxes available to assist with ferry transport in and out of Juneau. We prefer to add these boxes to ferry travel and NOT have any dogs double boxed. Please contact Gold Rush Dog Tours, LLC to reserve box space.

Mushers may have additional sled dog equipment and must make sure it is labeled with their name.
