Experience
The Sled Dog Handler is an entry-level position, with no experience necessary. Gold Rush Dog Tours, LLC demands employee dedication to safety, responsibility and productivity. Previous experience in the hospitality and tourism industry is desirable.
All employees of Gold Rush Dog Tours, LLC must have and provide current CPR and First Aid or greater credentials, valid for the duration of the operating season, prior to employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Sled Dog Handlers must have the ability to work with dogs and people; specific experience with sled dogs is desirable but not required. Must be capable of multi tasking and working with others.
All employees must be able to anticipate potential guest problems and safety issues and concerns and correct them prior to escalating with a proactive approach to problem solving and guest relations. The ability to respond calmly in escalating and / or emergency situations is paramount.
Sled Dog Handlers work independently and with others in a multi function environment. Sled Dog Handlers must be able to think logically, enjoy working with people and animals on a daily basis, be conscientious and reliable.
Working Conditions
Gold Rush Dog Tours operations are executed in the Sheep Creek Valley in Juneau, Alaska. We offer shared housing, living and dining accommodations. Environments are subject to varied weather. All employees are responsible for maintaining a positive outlook and pleasant attitude.
Reporting Relationships
The Camp Manager is hired by and reports to the Base Manager. Tour Mushers, Handlers, Photographer, Cook, Summer Camp Guides report to the Camp Manager. All employee paperwork, payroll, and human resources material is submitted to the Office Manager.
